My daughter, Abigail, is taking a course in seminary focusing on prayer, and shared this rabbinic quote:
"If a man says his prayers, as if to get through a set task, that is no prayer."
It got me thinking about the purpose of prayer. It is not to toss all our requests at the feet of a distant God. It is not to be able to check off one more spiritual task for the day. It is not to receive a blessing.
It is an opportunity to fellowship with the God of the universe, the Creator of all that is, the lover of our souls. It is a time to be still and know who He is. It is a time to share with the One who knows all things the thoughts of our heart. It is a time to share with the One who has all power the needs in our life, knowing that His desire is to provide for us.
When we think of prayer in that way, how can we pass it up? It no longer is a required duty, but a joyful opportunity to spend time with the only One who knows us fully and loves us unconditionally.

Prayer Request: Please pray for Forest, a young girl in jail after she left her baby in the tub for a minute and it drowned. Pray that she will be comforted and draw close to God, and that God will guide the legal process to the end He knows is right.
